Ross Barker
Ross Barker is a Certified Prosthetist Orthotist and the Glendale Market President at Limb Lab in Glendale, Arizona. He specializes in custom lower limb prosthetics, upper limb prosthetics, and carbon fiber orthoses, fabricating custom designs where conventional componentry falls short.
Ross fits and fabricates lower limb prostheses at the transtibial, transfemoral, and hip-disarticulation levels, including advanced systems with microprocessor knees and dynamic-response feet. He builds upper limb prostheses, transradial and transhumeral, both with myoelectric hands for everyday activities and designs for specific sports. Orthotically, he specializes in ReAktiv offloading carbon fiber AFOs for complex ankle pathologies – braces that reduce pressure and redistribute weight from painful areas while improving gait mechanics – and carbon fiber KAFOs for a range of knee and ankle conditions.
His innovative research and design extend beyond standard options. Conventional devices for Chopart amputations (forefoot removed, hindfoot preserved) are heavy and stiff, so Ross developed and fabricated a lighter, volume-adjustable, more dynamic alternative. With respect to micro-processor knees, he systematically reviewed fall-risk reduction compared with mechanical knees. He has presented on high-tech prosthetics to physical medicine and rehabilitation specialists, including at the Mayo Clinic.
Ross earned his bachelor of science in biomedical engineering and biomechanics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and forayed into hospital equipment before recognizing his affinity for blending technical proficiency with compassionate patient service. He earned his Master of Prosthetics and Orthotics from Northwestern University and completed his residency with Limb Lab in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, Ross practices with meticulous self-reflection and a commitment to learning from every patient he meets.
Every detail matters, from the first fitting to the final finish.
We do the insurance legwork.
Coverage depends on your specific plan and the device you’re prescribed. Our medical coordinators handle the insurance details, and when a device takes extra effort to get approved, we advocate for you. Sometimes insurance companies ask for additional information for approval; if so, we’ll be in touch with you and walk you through what’s needed.
-
Coverage isn’t a simple yes or no. It depends on your plan, your prescription, and your insurer’s criteria. Share your insurance information when you request an appointment, and our medical coordinators will review your benefits with you. We also work with workers’ compensation and self-pay patients.
-
That depends on your plan’s coverage and deductible. Our coordinators will walk you through expected costs before your device is made, so there are no surprises
-
Most plans require a prescription from your doctor before a device can be covered. If you don’t have one yet, call us and we’ll help you figure out next steps.
